French Empire Mahogany Marble-Top Commode, Circa 1820–1835

French Empire Mahogany Marble-Top Commode, Circa 1820–1835

SKU:CN2841025-129

A handsome French Empire period mahogany commode dating to the first quarter of the 19th century. The case is fitted with a black marble top above three short drawers and two full-width drawers, all accented with brass string inlay and period brass hardware.

Elegant brass-mounted corner columns terminate in tapered legs with gilt brass collars and sabots, a hallmark of the Empire style. Rich mahogany veneers throughout display beautiful grain and warm color, while the black marble top provides both durability and visual contrast.

The drawer interiors retain traditional hand-cut dovetail construction, further supporting the piece's early 19th century origin. Combining architectural form, restrained ornamentation, and exceptional functionality, this commode works equally well in traditional, transitional, and European-inspired interiors.
