Elegant French Louis XVI commode crafted in richly figured walnut and topped with its original marble slab. Featuring three dovetailed drawers, original brass hardware, tapered legs, and finely proportioned neoclassical lines, this piece exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of late 18th-century France.
A distinctive feature of the commode is the surviving black-painted trim, believed according to provenance to have been applied during a historic period of mourning following the death of a French monarch. This rare detail adds a unique layer of historical character while complementing the warm patina developed over more than two centuries.
