19th Century French Renaissance Revival Heraldic Knight Wall Cabinet / Comtoise Clock Case
Circa: 1900.
A distinctive late 19th-century French wall cabinet originally crafted as a case for a traditional Comtoise (Morbier) clock.
Constructed in solid oak with a rich aged patina, the cabinet features a carved crest pediment, turned bun feet, and decorative brass corner mounts. The paneled door is adorned with an exceptional cast brass heraldic knight holding a shield, framed by foliate ornamentation—a classic motif of the Renaissance Revival and Medieval Revival decorative styles popular in France during the late 19th century.
Originally designed to house a weight-driven clock movement, the cabinet retains its original clock-style hanging rings on the back. The interior has been adapted with shelving, allowing the piece to function beautifully today as a compact wall cupboard.
Perfect for use as:
-
a bar cabinet
-
spice cupboard
-
bathroom wall cabinet
-
display cabinet for small collectibles
The combination of historical clock origins and sculptural heraldic decoration makes this a charming and versatile antique accent piece.
